Characteristics of calcium propionate:
1. Not easy to be affected with moisture, and friendly for storage.
2. Intake of calcium propionate is beneficial to human bone growth.
It is also beneficial to poultry production when it is added as feed additive.
3. It is very safe. LD50=100mg/kg. Safer than sodium benzoate.
Application
1. Food industry
Pastry products
Calcium propionate: sodium dehydroacetate=6:4, which can effectively prolong the shelf life of bread.
Meat
The storage period of beef with 3% calcium propionate can reach 24 days in cool place, and 12 days at room temperature, which is significantly longer than that of beef without calcium propionate.
2. Feed industry
It is sensitive to mold, gram-negative bacteria, aflatoxin, etc., and has unique anti mold and anti-corrosion characteristics.
Prevent animal metabolic diseases, improve immunity, improve the utilization of feed for cattle and sheep, and promote animal growth.
Poultry
Adding 1g calcium propionate per kg of chicken feed can significantly increase the egg production and the weight of 4-week old broilers, and can increase the ability of laying hens to resist adverse stimulation.
Feed
Adding 4% urea and 0.2% calcium propionate to yellow corn straw can increase the content of crude protein and lactic acid in feed, reduce the content of neutral detergent fiber and acid detergent fiber, and increase the content of acetic acid at least, effectively improving the fermentation quality of feed.
In feed, calcium propionate is also an acidifier under acidic conditions.
